Fun and Exciting Local Events for Kids

Need inspiration for events for kids? As parents, we often get caught in the same old weekend routine -- a Saturday at the park, followed by the Sunday Farmer’s Market, or playdates with the same friends and family. You might be motivated to try something new but it can be hard to find kid-friendly outings.

It’s important for your child’s growth to experience new places, meet new people and try new activities. So here are some fun events for kids being held in various cities around the country. These exciting events for kids are often free -- and they’re always a good time!

FREE to Join

If you’re a California resident and a Library cardholder, Discover & Go is fantastic. This program provides free or low-cost passes to museums, theatres, aquariums, zoos, science centers and more!

There are 44 libraries across California involved with Discover & Go, making discounts available to all cardholders. And if you’re a resident of Contra Costa County, you also have access to free BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) tickets to qualified venues. Best of all, with Discover & Go you can reserve tickets online.

Looking for DIY crafting events for kids, but dreading all the mess and cleanup? Well, I have a great tip for you! Just take your little ones to your local Home Depot on the first Saturday of every month.

Each month, Home Depot offers a creative and exciting DIY project for youngsters. Kids get to keep whatever they make. Plus, they receive a free Certificate of Achievement, a Workshop Apron, and a commemorative pin (while supplies last).

Visit Home Depot Weekly Workshops and click on the Kids Workshops tab to view the project for the upcoming Home Depot Kids Workshop at your local Home Depot. (Just remember to register, so you can reserve your child build kit.)

Class fee may, apply ranging from $25-$100

Joann’s offers fantastic kids’ classes. Their workshops include everything from cookie decorating to knitting to making your own pajama pants! Joanne also offers different difficulty levels -- from beginner to immediate -- so older kids can enjoy crafting, too.

To find your local Joann’s Workshops, click here and register for your desired class.

FREE event, with a VIP sign up

What kid doesn’t love LEGO? Each month, LEGO Stores offer a free mini building event for kids ages 6-14. This includes detailed directions and all the LEGO pieces you need to build the monthly project.

To qualify for this free event, you must become a LEGO VIP member -- but the membership is free. Click here to join. We recommend registering because LEGO mini builds fill up quickly. Registration opens on the 15th of each month at 10am.

There are so many fantastic events for kids offered by local businesses. Your local library is a great source of information, too. Enjoy getting out in your community and spreading your creative wings. Whether it’s a DIY crafting project or a fun museum visit, spending time together is the greatest way to create lasting memories.

Events for kids can be educational, help your child gain confidence in social settings, and provide hours of fun for the whole family. What are you waiting for?
